It was John Stott who wrote: “Scripture is the sceptre by which King Jesus reigns.”
There is no higher charge than the charge to teach it (2 Timothy 4:1-4), and so there can be no higher priority than that of reading, digesting, and obeying it (2 Timothy 3:14-17).
This fragment from John's gospel dates to the early second century – only 10 to 50 years after the gospel was first written, and within 100 years of the events themselves. Yet the reliability of the bible ultimately rests not on such dating, but on the fact that it is inspired by God.
